The Unbearable Kindness of Strangers

I picked up a Markill Peak Ignition Ti stove today from the Post Office. It belongs to Matt Swaine, Editor of Trail. It's his personal stove. I have a handwritten note to prove it. He's given it to me to keep. He's also sending me some other stuff. He didn't have to but he did.

Mad steam-punk ray-gun?

I think that's awfy kind. All he's asked in return is that I maybe send in a photie of it getting used.

I can do that.

I'm taking that piezo ignition off first tho'.

That is because Trail has nice folks writing it. They get a bad press with some and that annoys me. I have to say again the present Trail team is a good one and PTC needs more pages to do what he does.

I agree. They seem to be a good bunch.

I'm sure ptc* would have nae bother filling a couple of pages and the mag would be all the better for it.

If reader A thinks "hrmph, this magazine isn't for me", it isn't a slight on the writers, or even a slight at all. Just that they aren't the target audience.

Some people, however, may decide to slag off the writers, their pets, and next-door-neighbours. That just shows the petty-mindedness of people.

It's a cracking wee stove, I used one a lot last year and I can't fault it at all.

Trail? When I talk to any of them, it's all kit and hill banter. There's folk in there that do have a real passion for the outdoors and working for the mag is a passport to free gear and paid trips to the hills.
I don't think that often comes across in the writing though.

Aye, it's a guid we stove. I love mine to bits and use it all the time. (my piezo still works, it'll come off as soon as it breaks tho)

I likr Trail yet I also like "that other mag" I also reckon PTC* should get more space, its the first bit I turn to.

If I didnt like it I just woulnae buy it instead of slagging it off.

It's OK, you can say TGO here :o)

Trail? Yes, buy it or don't. It's nae biggie. I hate The Daily Mail but I don't bang on about it.

As others have said, the "new look" TGO is very good indeed.

Stove-wise, the family were most impressed by the Markill's general "dinky-ness" :o)
