Apologies for absence

Well, it's been a while. A whole 2 months since I last posted, even longer since I posted anything related to the outdoors.

Starting the year with a car in the garage, for the third year in a row, didn't help. Nothing like having no transport and a big bill to put the mockers on the fun times.

And then we had a death. Nobody that'll be missed to any great extent but it did start me thinking about shit that'd been boxed away for nigh on 4 decades. Still, I got to visit my mother in her own home for the first time in 20 years and have a nosey around the auld home toon. Nice to see the sea and fishing boats and stuff. Felt a bit weird but I'm sure it'll get easier as time goes on.

There's been some good stuff too; the Future Mrs D and I have set a date and will be wed in May. I can't really use this an excuse for not getting out as my beloved is doing all the organising. I just have to turn up, say a few words, dance a bit and that's it :o)

Later in the year, round about August-time, we'll become grandparents for the first time. I know what you're thinking; "But Kev, you're so young. How can this be?". Well, it's our eldest, 27 and married that is with child. Certainly bucking the trend for round here, where 30 year old grandmothers are not uncommon but there you go.

I think the biggest problem I have right now is work. I can't say anything here because they visit from time to time. Hello btw. But aye, come Friday, I'm so fucked off that I really can't be arsed doing anything very much.

All is not lost however; the Future Mrs D has offered to "chum" me up some hills. Wee ones at first and then some bigger stuff. And The Boy has suggested a 2, 3 or 4 nighter somewhere. A trek of sorts. I'm thinking maybe a bit of the West Highland Way. Or Blair Atholl to Aviemore. Or maybe head east from Spean Bridge.

Here, look at me making plans. Things are looking up :o)

Blair Atholl to Aviemore. Be a good cross country walk that.

Indeed. Though I'd be tempted to swing a left before White Bridge and head for Glen Feshie rather than trudge up the LG.

Welcome back!

Congrats on setting the date for the big day! :)

I know what you mean about work, I sit in front of a monitor all day writing screeds of PHP for a project that has been going on for almost 2 years now... and come Friday I don't feel all that enthusiastic about a lot of stuff, but generally find that getting out for a walk, adorned with Haglofs, at the weekend does me the world of good :)

Thanks chaps :o)

Aye Gordon, walking was always the antidote to the working week. Somewhere along the way I seem to have lost it. Maybe I shouldnae wear the Haglofs to work? :o)

Haha, I wear Haglofs to work as well, my Reptile Hood and Single Top are today's work wear.

Nice to wear stuff that the vast majority of folks in the office ain't wearing... but michty-me, these clothes feel so much better worn on the hill :)

I think that the working week, coupled with the dark evening limits of winter, is a big diluter of mojo. My g/f says that I should appreciate winter for what it is, kind of difficult at first, especially when a 1.5 mile walk, up to your knees in snow is completely knackering... but I think I'm getting the hang of it :)

I know what your g/f means. Sometimes the hardest part is just getting that first foot out the door. The anticipation kicks in once I'm on the road rather than the night before. I need to find the guy I used to be.

Best wishes for the big day ... and the future too, of course.

Cheers Aktodude :o) Big day was last Saturday and it was truly magic. Piper, men in kilts, girls in their best frocks and everybody made it out under their own steam at the end of the night. Marvellous.

Congratulations! I'm raising a wee glass to the pair of you.

As if I needed an excuse.
;)

Cheers!!!
